This download contains an editable 50+ slide PowerPoint featuring debates for GCSE Religious Studies students. It also contains a ârandomiserâ slide so that debate topics can be selected randomly.
This tool focuses on Christian teachings and does not refer to a specific comparative religion (making it suitable for all GCSE RS teachers). I based the debate topics on commonalities between AQA, OCR and Eduqas specifications: it should be useful regardless of the specification you are using.
Debates take an âagree or disagreeâ format: students are asked to move from one side of the room to the other depending on their response to the statements that appear.
This format allows teachers to foster debates and discussions between students, it can be helpful to ask students to justify their reasons and use sensible arguments. Questions you might ask include:
âWhat is wrong with the other position in your view?â,
âWhy did you choose to stand where youâre standing?â,
âWhy do you think people disagree so much about this question?â
It is best to encourage students to pick a side rather than float in the middle: but it can also be fun to allow students to change side as the debate progresses, so that students can try to persuade one another to move.
This is a great resource to use at the end of lessons if you have a few minutes left, it can be used as an entire lesson or revision session. Itâs a fun way to introduce a course or to use as an ice-breaker with new classes, and can also be used by tutor groups as a whole-school initiative.

This booklet is designed for years 7-9, once printed (preferably colour, double-sided and bound!) and given to a student - it contains enough philosophically stimulating tasks to keep your students busy for the year!
It contains 60 pages and over 50 tasks.
The tasks are differentiated, the format allows students to select the tasks that interest them. Some tasks are aided by the use of smart-phones (for YouTube etc)
As a teacher, your only task is to check that students are completing the tasks.
This one resource is great for form-time.

This revision session covers both the âLiberation Theologyâ section of the specification. The topic is a part of the âChristianityâ (Developments in Christian Thought) component of the A2 course and falls under the subsection: âChallengesâ. It covers Marxist philosophy, Marxist critiques of religion, and how Liberation Theology responds to Marxist ideology.
This download contains one of a series of revision sessions that use a variety of mind-mapping, discussion and debate tasks to cover a section of the specification.

The topic of this Philosophy Boxes download is âMoral & Spiritual Developmentâ. It is one of a series of PSHE-P4C sessions designed for KS2-4 PSHE students. The download comprises a P4C lesson/session that can be used multiple times with the same group.
The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to PSHE designed for students in KS2-4: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind. In this context: âPhilosophy Boxesâ represents a more student-centred âdebate & discussionâ approach to PSHE issues.
The aim of our âPhilosopy Boxesâ PSHE sessions is to bring deep, critical thinking to PSHE, exploring PSHE using P4C (Philosophy for Children) debates and discussions. One advantage to the method is that it helps students to practice their social skills through the activities.
The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of âmystery boxesâ, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities (in 8 different formats).
The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from.
The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes.
The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity.

AQA Philosophy [2017 specification onwards) (AS/A2) assessment and feedback resources for:

The feedback worksheets are designed for peer, self or teacher assessment. They are designed so that multiple markers can assess the work (perfect for lessons after a large assessment)
They are mainly tick-box based (for the assessor) making them invaluable time-saving tools.
